"... Tatalovic has a warning for women: beware of bad guys." John Petkovic,  Plain Dealer

The Bad Guy Speaks is a story about a psycho who wants to "educate" women about self-protection and defence against the bad guys. It's a bizarre trip in the mind of sexual predator... and a chiling message to every female!

The film is an interesting (and somewhat controversial) blend of great written monologue, "noir" photography, and very entertaining music tracks. It's a short thriller that will make you think... when you enter an underground parking lot next time!

The Bad Guy Speaks is a student short film based on the short story ("Scary Stories - series #004, the Dennis Goldberg Collection") by Dr. Dennis Goldberg,
the "writer-extraordinaire" from Powell, Wyoming. The short script was given to BrunoDP, for his student thesis film at Cleveland State U. The preproduction started in May of 2005. Bruno's production consultant on this project, and film class instructor was Dr. Austin Allen. The entire picture was created on a very low budget, with volunteer work and colaboration. (see Bruno's original posting on the local site)

The crew consisted of several CSU students, Bruno's family, and friends. The cast was local, with several actors who appeared on the screen for the first time. It took 4 days of principal photography, and 10 more days of postproduction work, to complete this picture. It premiered at Cleveland State University's student film event - Indy Cleveland '05, on August 12th, 2005, in front of couple of hundred local film-lovers. In 2006 the picture had a European premiere at one of the oldest short film festivals in the world - 53rd Belgrade Documentary & Short Film Festival (Belgrade, Serbia). The Bad Guy Speaks won Silver Star Award at the Indie Gathering '06, one of the largest "underground film" expos in the U.S. (2006 Indie Gathering).

The film's soundtrack consists of several original songs by Lisa Marie Brennan (singer/songwriter from California), Dan Boros (recording artist from Cleveland), Pavle Majerle (guitarist/songwriter from Parma, Ohio), and Jerry "Humachine" Miller (techno-guru from Ohio).

Testimonials:

"Dear Bruno... I am proud that I have been associated with you and hope to continue to be so in the future." says Dennis Goldberg, writer-extraordinaire.

***

"...it was great. I'm proud to say I was your teacher. Your lead actor was better than I'd expected, and the musical score was excellent. The bonus stuff was great as well...nicely illustrating the craft you employed when shooting the film." says Dr. David Atkin, University of Connecticut

***

"A dark comedy shot on super 16mm, this movie proved to be both funny and controversial at the same time. A serial rapist/killer makes the audience aware of the seriousness of violence against women. Matt gives the movie a 7/10. I give it a 9/10. (Hey, any movie recommending women carry guns and shoot bad guys gets bonus points in my book!)" says Justin Buchanan, producer/director

FACTS:

-camera wouldn't work on the first day (first shot), and it took about 3 hours to fix the problem. Later that day the crew had to compensate for the lost time... and executed 30 more shots in about 5 hours.

-the clapboard for the shoot was made by BrunoDP, one day before actual shooting.

-the tracks for the dolly were made by Tatko (key grip), one day before the shooting.

-shooting ratio was about 2:1.
